I Don't Need Intuitive Eating

And I am not here to tell you what you need and don’t need (intuitive eating taught me that).

But I can’t help but wonder why the same person who says they don’t need intuitive eating, also says:


“If my kids eat too much sugar, they won’t sleep. They act crazy with sugar”


“This is the only flattering dress I can find.”


" I can't live without my food scale."


“I need to lose 10 pounds.”


“My husband needs to lose weight.”


“My kids want candy for breakfast! I have to hide it or they will eat it!”


“ I am trying to eat less carbs.”


" I am giving up gluten."


" I am nursing and can't lose weight. I am going to try Keto."


“ I want to exercise more, but I can’t get motivated.”


“ When I was thinner, I felt so much better about myself. I had more energy.”


" I need to get back on track with food tomorrow."



This stuff lurking in our heads that leads us to say these things is at the heart of intuitive eating. So, when I hear you say you don’t need it ( and heck, I know I am biased, and you very well MAY NOT need it), I tend to wonder if maybe you do.


The above quotes are based on the following belief systems:


Sugar is bad for you and should be avoided.

Being thin is better.

Gluten is bad.

Our clothes should make us look thinner.

Exercise is associated with a diet mindset.

Weight is synonymous with health.

Finding health involves a series of quick fix solutions.


So let’s get very, very real with ourselves when we say we don’t need to think about food and exercise through a new lens.

Are you saying and thinking the comments above and have those thoughts and words been productive?

Have they produced a lasting, life long shift toward physical, mental, spiritual health?

Are they coming from a place of fear?

Are they truly benefitting your children? your husband? you?


If not, perhaps you have nothing to lose by being open minded to a new way of thinking.
